If you’re the kind of person who’d rather explore a tiny creative studio than a crowded tourist spot, or if your idea of a perfect day includes wandering through a gallery followed by tea and a slice of cake, then The Little Gallery Guide was made for you.

This charming, pocket-sized annual magazine is filled with some of the UK’s most inspiring art galleries, craft centres, sculpture parks, and creative businesses. It launched in early 2022 and has already become a go-to resource for those who love to combine travel with a splash of creativity.

Even better? We’re thrilled to share that Applecross Gallery is now featured in the newest edition.

So, whether you’re an art collector, a curious maker, or someone planning a creative getaway to the Highlands, read on, we’re about to take you on a journey through the best of British art, from city studios to coastal hideaways.

What Exactly Is The Little Gallery Guide?

At first glance, it might look like a dinky little magazine. And it is. But it’s also much more than that.

The Little Gallery Guide is an annual A6 print and online guide dedicated to showcasing the very best of the UK’s creative spaces. Think art galleries, craft collectives, working studios, sculpture parks, even the kind of places you’d never find without a little help from someone in the know.

It’s beautifully curated, with a mix of established favourites and hidden gems. You’ll find big-name destinations alongside tiny studios you can only reach via a country lane.

What really sets it apart is its mission: to encourage more people to explore creativity, support local artists, and invest in art. Whether you’re buying a statement piece or simply soaking up the atmosphere, this guide connects you to people and places that are shaping the UK’s creative scene.

Why This Guide Is So Important (and So Refreshing)

In a world of digital noise, there’s something wonderfully human about a printed guide made with care. But the magic of The Little Gallery Guide isn’t just its format, it’s the purpose behind it.

It’s not just about showcasing art. It’s about helping people experience it. Discover it. Support it.

This is a guide built on community, where artists, makers, galleries, and visitors all benefit. It bridges the gap between art and travel, encouraging readers to visit new places and meet the people behind the work. And for galleries like ours, it’s a way to connect with visitors who might never have heard of us otherwise.

What You'll Discover in the Guide

One of the most exciting things about The Little Gallery Guide is the range of places it covers. You’ll find contemporary city galleries with slick exhibitions alongside rustic studios where artists welcome you in for a cuppa.

It features:

  • Sculptures nestled in wild landscapes

  • Artist-led workshops where you can try your hand at something new

  • Craft centres brimming with handmade jewellery, ceramics, textiles, and more

  • Open studio trails and seasonal events you’ll want to add to your calendar

It’s a little guide with big inspiration. Perfect for anyone who’s ever dreamed of driving through the countryside and stumbling upon a gallery tucked away in an old barn, or spending the afternoon watching a potter at work.

And soon, when you flip through its pages or scroll through the online version, you’ll find a familiar name: Applecross Gallery.

Applecross Gallery: A Creative Stop on the Road Less Travelled

We’re beyond excited to be featured in The Little Gallery Guide.

Applecross Photographic Gallery opened in 2015, right here on the wild and beautiful Applecross Peninsula. You’ll find us about a mile past the Applecross Inn, perched just above the Bealach na Bà, one of the most scenic (and dramatic) routes in Scotland.

We like to joke that we’ve got the best view from any car park in Scotland with panoramic vistas of Raasay, Scalpay, and the Cuillin hills of Skye.

Inside, you’ll find a carefully curated collection of landscape photography that captures the spirit of the Highlands.

During the summer, we’re open seven days a week, from 9am to 5pm. Whether you’re a keen photographer, a nature lover, or someone just passing through, we’d love to welcome you in.

Art Travel: The Most Inspiring Way to Explore the UK

More and more people are choosing to travel with intention. They’re looking for meaningful experiences, local encounters, and the chance to take home something more lasting than a souvenir.

That’s where creative tourism comes in. And The Little Gallery Guide makes it easier than ever.

Imagine planning a road trip where every stop is an opportunity to discover a new artist, take a class, or pick up a handmade piece that speaks to you. Imagine exploring rural Scotland and finding a gallery high on a hillside, filled with images that echo the views outside.

That’s what art travel is all about.

It’s slower. More personal. And infinitely more memorable.

Ready to Start Your Creative Adventure?

The Little Gallery Guide is more than just a publication, it’s a community, a resource, and an invitation to explore.

So go ahead, grab your copy (or check out the online version). Mark a few places on the map. Find the galleries that speak to you. Support local artists. Try something new.

And when you reach the Highlands, we hope you’ll take that turn over the pass, follow the winding road past the sea, and stop by Applecross Gallery.

We’ll be here, with the kettle on, the view waiting, and art that connects you to the land we love.
