Lamp

Our larch wood table lamps are hand crafted from the ends of disused fence posts, that we reclaim from the hillsides of the Applecross Peninsula. The timber is dried in our kiln before being processed, creating a beautiful item that will last a lifetime.

Each one carries its own natural character and history, giving you the opportunity to own your very own piece of Applecross. Because of this individuality, we encourage you to view the photo of each lamp closely before choosing your favourite. No two lamps are the same. Customise your new item with your own bulb at home, or add one of ours to complete the look.

These pieces were designed to complement our framed canvases, though they stand confidently on their own as an organic focal point in any room.

These lamps are perfect for those who appreciate a more organic, earthy aesthetic while supporting sustainable practices.

Origin Story

For years, my team and I have been using reclaimed fence posts, to build our floating post and larch post frames.

For those who aren't already familiar with the origin, the timber is larch wood which originally grew here in Applecross as trees in the 1800s. In around 1970, a new, very large plantation was established, partly stretching along the side of the Bealach. The young trees needed protection from the local red deer, so a special saw mill was built to mill the local larch trees, turning them into fence posts. The plantation stood proudly on the hillside for almost 50 years, before maturing and in turn being harvested. The fence was no longer needed, and left to fall into disrepair. Seeing this ancient timber, that served multiple purposes left discarded inspired me to use it to frame my photography. Many folks around the world now have photographs of Applecross and the surrounding areas, framed with this local timber which had never left the peninsula before going home with them!

For years, when making these frames, I would cut off the tapered ends, giving them away to be used for firewood. I then had a light bulb moment, imagining how they could be turned into beautiful table lamps, further reducing any waste from our processes and giving new life to the material.

Once I had the idea, I then spent time meticulously researching the best, UK based manufacturer of electrical and lighting components before building and testing my first prototypes. Once the high quality finish I had envisioned came to life we set to work making our first batch which you can now buy for yourself!

While they make a beautiful standalone piece, my intention is to launch a range of lamp shades showcasing some of my local photography in the future. Once ready, this will allow you to pair your favourite photo, with you favourite lamp base. In the same way you can now with our frame range.
