Story From Behind The Lens
Print Guide
Hand-Stretched Canvas
At The Applecross Gallery, we use high-grade, UV-resistant canvas with a matte finish alongside a professional-grade 12-ink printer. This advanced technology captures the full tonal range and precise colour of Jack Marris' Highland photography, ensuring each piece has remarkable clarity and longevity.
Every canvas is hand-stretched in-house over durable pinewood frames crafted by local artisans, creating a unique, authentic addition to your decor. Your order arrives ready to hang, bringing the beauty of the Highlands straight to your space.
Larch Post Frames (Medium & Large Framed Canvases)
Larch post frames offer a rustic and unique way to display your favourite Scottish prints. Crafted from reclaimed larch fence posts that we collect from around Applecross, each frame carries its own natural character and history, adding warmth and texture to the artwork.
These frames are perfect for those who appreciate a more organic, earthy aesthetic while supporting sustainable practices. Every one is unique, carrying natural details like lichen and moss that grew on the posts over the years.
Walnut Blasted Frames (Medium & Large Framed Canvases)
Our walnut blasted frames are handcrafted from reclaimed Applecross larch fence posts and offer a more contemporary alternative to our rustic larch post frames. Using crushed walnut shells, blasted at high pressure, the weathered surface of the timber is carefully removed to reveal the beautiful grain, colour, and texture beneath.
Finished as a floating frame, each piece retains the history and character of the reclaimed wood while providing a cleaner, more refined appearance that complements both traditional and modern interiors.
This is an exclusive framing option, only available with this photograph on our website.
Fine Art Prints
Our fine art prints are crafted on premium paper for lasting quality and vibrant detail, available in two sizes and signed by Jack. Check our sizing guide for easy conversion from inches to centimetres. Each print is shipped in a protective tube, ready for you to frame or present as you wish.
Size Guide
Canvases
Spring Tide is different from many of our other panoramas. Rather than the panoramic format we often use, this photograph was designed as an exceptionally wide panorama to capture the full sweep of Applecross Bay, from the tidal sands to Raasay and the Cuillins beyond.
Because of this, the sizing is unique to this photograph.
Medium Canvas (50x8 inches / approx. 127x20 cm)
Our smallest Spring Tide canvas is long, slim, and surprisingly versatile. It works well above doorways, windows, desks, shelving, or other narrower wall spaces where a traditional framed photograph may feel too tall.
It's a wonderful option for bringing a little piece of Applecross into spaces that wouldn't normally suit artwork.
Large Canvas (60x10 inches / approx. 152x25 cm)
At five feet wide, this size creates much more of a statement while still maintaining the elegant proportions of the panorama.
It's particularly popular above king-size beds, fireplaces, sideboards, sofas, and even pianos, where the full sweep of the bay can be appreciated without dominating the room.
Extra Large Canvas (80x14 inches / approx. 203x36 cm)
At just over two metres wide, this is the size that really allows the detail within Spring Tide to shine.
Despite its width, the panorama remains relatively shallow in height, making it less imposing than many large wall pieces. It works particularly well in hallways, long walls, open-plan living spaces, and rooms where you can enjoy discovering the smaller details hidden throughout the landscape.
Hand-Stretched In Applecross
Every canvas is printed and hand-stretched in-house using premium materials designed to showcase the extraordinary detail within Spring Tide.
Our canvases can also be complemented by our range of rustic locally crafted frames, including our reclaimed Larch Post Frames or our contemporary Walnut Blasted Floating Frames, both made from locally reclaimed fence posts with their own unique character and story.
Fine Art Prints
Our archival fine art prints are produced on premium paper chosen to bring out the depth, texture, and changing light within Jack’s Highland photography. Every print is hand signed by Jack and arrives rolled in a protective tube, ready to frame in your own style.
Fine Art Print (50x8 inches / approx. 127x20 cm)
The fine art print version of Spring Tide offers all the detail of the original panorama in a format that can be framed to suit your own space and interior style.
Whether displayed in a hallway, above furniture, or as part of a wider collection of Highland photography, it provides a detailed reminder of Applecross Bay.
