Spring Tide On Applecross Bay
If you’ve ever visited Applecross, you’ll recognise this as the quintessential view from Applecross Bay over to the Cuillin Range on the Isle of Skye. This is one of our longest panoramas, which works well above sofas, dining tables, or even pianos!
Story Behind The Lens:
Jack had always wanted an image of Applecross Bay taken the way the eye sees it. But the difficulty lay in being able to capture the scale of this landscape in just one image. His answer was to take it from further back, higher up, and take many carefully planned images with a longer telephoto lens that he could later stitch together.
The final panorama is made up of six images stitched together, which allows you to get immense detail even when you zoom into the photo closely. When people visit the Gallery and see this canvas in person, we always ask them to try and find the dogs enjoying a run on the beach with their owner!
The name “Spring Tide” came not only because Jack captured this in spring, but because the tide was also at an extreme low due to the higher gravitational pulls of the sun and moon, which is referred to as a spring tide.
